Frequently asked questions

Where do I park?

Because of our intimate location, The Red Barn Theatre does not have any public parking. We can recommend trying the parking lot at the Post Office at Whitehead and Eaton Streets, or the public lot at Simonton and Angela Streets. There is also paid public parking on the streets in the immediate area of the theater. We can accommodate one or two Handicap Parking needs at the theater, but these must be reserved in advance by calling the Box Office at 305-296-9911.

Are there any restaurants near the theater for pre- or post-show meals and/or drinks?

Duval Street in Key West has dozens of restaurant options to choose from. In our 300 block, there is The Grand Cafe directly across the street from the theater, The Hard Rock Cafe right next door, and Caroline's, just down the block. For fast food lovers, there's a Wendy's at the corner of Eaton and Duval Streets, a half a block from the theater. And just around the corner on Eaton Street (toward Whitehead), there's the Saint Hotel. All are quite good and all are efficient with serving if you let them know you're heading to the Red Barn Theater for a performance that night.

Are there handling fees for tickets purchased at the Red Barn Theatre or its ticketing site?

Yes. Our ticketing is handled by Seat Advisor, who charges a small fee for handling our ticketing. The ticket fees are subject to change, so to find out what they are, please call the Box Office at 305-296-9911.

Can I exchange my tickets for another performance?

There are no refunds or exchanges for non-member tickets. Season Subscribers may be able to exchange certain tickets- at the discretion of the Box Office Manager. Tickets for one show may not be exchanged for another show under any circumstances. Please contact the Box Office at 305-296-9911 with any questions.

When should I arrive for a performance?

We recommend you arrive at the theater 30 minutes before the performance. Our cash bar, Gil’s, opens at that time for wine, beer, sodas, water, and mixed cocktails, and we have porch and courtyard seating where you can socialize with other theatergoers that evening. Our doors open 15 minutes before the start of the performance. If you are looking to pick up your tickets before going to dinner, the Box Office is usually open on show days from about 3 pm on.

Are food and beverages allowed in the theater?

Food, no. But any beverages you purchase at our Gil's Bar, you may take with you into the theater. All we ask is that you remove any items you bring into the theater with you. Trash and recycling receptacles are abundant and placed near the doors of the theater, so it's easy to dispose of anything after the show. We greatly appreciate your helping us keep the Red Barn clean.

What about my phone?

Because of the close intimacy of the Red Barn space, we strongly urge you to turn off your phones and pagers completely during the performance. Having a cell phone ring during a performance is incredibly disturbing to your fellow patrons, as well as very distracting to the actors. If you feel that you must have a way for someone to reach you in case of emergency, you may leave our Box Office number with someone at home (please notify the Box Office), along with your seat numbers and name.

What happens if I'm late to a show?

If you arrive late, to cause the least amount of disruption to the performance and other patrons, you may not be seated in your assigned seat. Please be aware that late arrivals may not always be allowed entry once the show has begun. This is up to the Director, Stage Manager, or Box Office Manager’s discretion.

Are photography and recording allowed in the theater?

No, for a couple of reasons: First, our licensing contracts for the shows prohibit it. And second, because of the intimacy of the Red Barn, it can be very distracting to the other patrons and our actors alike.

Is the theater accessible?

Yes, the theater is fully accessible. If you require wheelchair-accessible seating, please contact the Box Office at 305-296-9911.

Are there ever any post-show discussions?

Yes. Discussions may occur after select performances of the Red Barn's Mainstage Season. The Box Office will be able to inform you of those.

Do all shows have an intermission?

Most shows at the Red Barn have at least one 15-minute intermission. On rare occasions, however, a show may be performed without intermission. You will see an announcement posted at the Box Office regarding the running time of the show and the number of intermissions. Intermission information is also listed on the title page of your theater program.

Do you have public bathrooms?

Yes, we have large bathrooms available for all our patrons. They are in the section of our building closest to Gil's Bar. Both bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Does the Red Barn offer Show Advisories about show content?

The Red Barn does not always offer advisories about subject matter or show content, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However, if you have any questions about content, age-appropriateness, or stage effects (such as strobe lights or theatrical fog), contact our Box Office at 305-296-9911.

What is the dress code at the Red Barn?

At a Red Barn performance, you'll see all sorts of dress—from dressy attire to business casual to jeans. The rule of thumb is, wear what makes you feel most comfortable (shoes and shirt required).

Is smoking allowed at the Red Barn?

Smoking is NOT allowed in any part of the theater or within 25 feet of the theater entrance. We have a large courtyard in front of the theater, where patrons may smoke if they so desire. Please be sure to extinguish your cigarettes fully.

Do you have a Lost and Found?

If you have lost or left personal items at the theater, call the Box Office at 305-296-9911 the next day to check to see if we've found them. Our ushers are very good at returning lost or left items to the Box Office, so chances are that we'll have your property if you left it in the theater.

How can I be contacted in case of emergency?

If you need to leave a number for a sitter or relative, please leave our Box Office phone number: 305-296-9911. Also, be sure to give them your seat locations and the name your tickets are under and inform the Box Office.

I am a member of the media. How can I get more information?

Visit this website regularly for updated publicity, or call our Publicity Department at 302-540-6102.

Anything else I should know?

Laugh. Be moved. Read the playbill from cover to cover. Cheer and give a standing ovation if you are so inclined. Chat with the folks around you...make new friends. Theater is a beautiful, meaningful way to bring people together. It's why we do what we do at the Red Barn, and we can't wait for you to join us.
